You’re Unable to Connect Using the IP Address or Host Name With SynchronEyes Software

SMART Software SynchronEyes classroom management software 7.x, 6.x, 5.x, 4.x and 3.x
Operating Systems Windows operating systems

Issue

You’re unable to connect a student’s computer to the teacher’s computer using an IP address or host name in SynchronEyes software.

Note

For information on connecting a student’s computer to the teacher’s computer using an IP address or host name with SMART Sync software, see document 133329.

Solution

Diagnose and resolve the connection issues.

SynchronEyes Software 5.x, 6.x and 7.x

To diagnose and resolve the connection issues

  1. Browse to the SynchronEyes Student folder on the student’s computer.

  2. Double-click StudentConfig.exe.

The SynchronEyes Student Configuration dialog box appears.

  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to diagnose and resolve the student’s connection issues.

SynchronEyes Software 3.x and 4.x

Note

Even if you want to connect the student’s computer to the teacher’s computer using a host name, connect using an IP address in the following steps to diagnose the connection issue.

To diagnose and resolve the connection issues

  1. Take note of the teacher computer’s IP address as follows:

  2. On the teacher’s computer, start SynchronEyes software.

  3. Select Help > About SynchronEyes.

The About SynchronEyes Software dialog box appears.

  4. Take note of the teacher’s computer IP address.

  5. Click OK to close the About SynchronEyes Software dialog box.

  6. On the student's computer:

  7. Select Start > Run.

    The Run dialog box appears.

  8. Type cmd and click OK.

    The C:\WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe window appears.

  9. Type ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP address of the teacher's computer), and then press ENTER.

A successful ping response window appears similar to the following:

If your ping response doesn’t appear similar to the previous window, the network path between the teacher and the student’s computer isn’t working.

  10. If a successful ping response window appears, but you’re still unable to connect the student's computer to the teacher's computer using an IP address, a firewall is blocking a network port. If possible, set your firewall to allow network traffic from SynchronEyes software. If this doesn’t resolve the issue, open all ports required by SynchronEyes software. See document 93180 for more information.

Note

Some anti-virus software include a firewall. Set the anti-virus software to allow SynchronEyes software network traffic if your anti-virus software’s firewall blocks SynchronEyes software. For more information, see the instructions included with your anti-virus software.
